Research has shown that there is a correlation between people suffering from acne, and the fact that they consume milk products and/or high amounts of sugar. Dairy products can cause a rise in some male hormones that cause acne breakouts (androgens or testosterone) and high glycemic diets (bread, rice, cereal, pasta, sugar, and flour products of all kinds) cause spikes in insulin.
Milk is naturally full of hormones, specifically anabolic hormones like androgens. Milk can also spike insulin levels. Doctor’s don’t suggest cutting milk out of your diet unless it’s for medical reasons, however the government rule of 3 servings a day might be a little much for the average person, especially a person suffering from acne.
Studies showed that people who consumed a high-glycemic diet also had more instances of acne. What this all comes down to is that our diet and our hormones are very closely linked- as in, our diet affects our hormones, and as we know, hormones can contribute to acne.
Researchers suggest eating a diet low in dairy and one that is also a low-glycemic diet. Increase your vegetables, fruits, and healthy fats, and decrease your breakouts!
